Fr. Dr Joseph Victor Pitchai S.J- Principal
Fr. Dr Joseph Victor S.J. is the Principal of North Bengal St. Xavier's College (NBSXC) since 8th March 2016. He did his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry Honors from St. Joseph's college, Trichy, University of Madras, Master’s degree in Chemistry from Loyola College, Chennai, University of Madras and Ph. D in Physical Chemistry from the University of North Bengal. He also has a Bachelor’s degree in Theology from Delhi and a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Chennai.
Fr Joe Victor, as he is popularly called by his friends, began his teaching career as a Lecturer in Chemistry in 1987 (still a ‘brother’, at the age of 27) at St. Joseph's College, Darjeeling, and went on to wear several hats – Dean of students and staff, Director of Xavier Hostel, Vice-Principal and Principal till 2008. He left Darjeeling during that long period only to complete his studies and research. Since 2008, he shifted his attention from formal to non-formal education and social action for the benefit of tea workers, especially in closed tea gardens of Dooars area of North Bengal (Birpara, Kelabari, Kalchini, Alipurduar). In 2011, he founded St Xavier’s school, Alipurduar and spent a year establishing that before returning to social action. In mid 2012, after a successful Right to Food campaign for tea workers, Fr Victor was called to join North Bengal St Xavier’s College first as an Assistant Professor and in the next year as a Vice-Principal. From mid 2014 to March 2016, he responded to a request from the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) to serve the refugees first in Damak, Nepal for about six months (as Assistant Field Director and Resource Teacher in science) and then from Nov 2014 to March 2016 in Sri Lanka as Project Director of online higher education program with an additional duty as acting Country Director of JRS in 2016.
MS. APARNA CHATTERJEE
– Assistant Professor
Ms. Aparna Chatterjee completed her post graduation in Sociology and Social Anthropology from University of North Bengal – NBU achieving 1st class 1st position and achieved gold medal. Ms. Chatterjee completed her M.Phil and presently pursuing Ph.D in the area of Sociology of Religion and Culture – A study on socio-cultural distinctiveness and exchange of Theravadi Bengali Buddhist of North Bengal from Department of Sociology, NBU. Mrs. Chatterjee cleared her State Eligibility Test – SET for lectureship conducted by West Bengal College Service Commission in 2008. She started her teaching career from the year 1999, as a lecturer at Gour Mahavidyalaya, Malda. She joined Siliguri College in the year 2002 as a lecturer and worked till 2008. Within this span she also acted as a counselor in Directorate of Distance Education and Netaji Subhas Open University. She joined NBXC in the year 2009. Along with this she is also the Counselor of Indira Gandhi Open University at NBXC. She is the member of research committees – Community study and Sociology of Religion of International Sociological Association. She has more than 12 publications in the national and international journals.
She is Vice-Principal (Acting) since September-2016.
Fr. Dennis Soosai SJ - Vice Principal
Fr. Dennis Soosai SJ, completed his graduation in Botany from St. Joseph’s College, North Point Darjeeling and B.Ed. from Loyola College of Education, Namchi. He completed Masters in Philosophy in 2004. Further he passed with distinction in Masters in Biotechnology in 2007 from Loyola College, Chennai, Madras University. During his post graduation he did project on “Agrobacterium Mediated Genetic Engineering of Maiz (Zea mays) variety –All Rounder for Fungal resistance using Chitinase and B-1, 3 Glucanase Genes” at Entomology Research Institute, Loyola College, Chennai.
Fr. Dennis was appointed as Asst. Professor, Dept. of Botany & Asst. Director of Self- Financed Courses and Estate Manager at St. Joseph’s College, North Point Darjeeling for the period of 2011-2013. He joined North Bengal St. Xavier’s College as a Bursar and Hostel warden in 2013. He also teaches Botany and Environmental Studies at NBSXC. He has also attended an International Conference on “Global Climate Change and Water Disasters”, organized by Department of Environmental Studies, St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata from March 27-29, 2015. Presently he is also the Vice Principal of the College.
Fr. Francis D'Souza S.J.- Bursar
Fr.Peter Bhujel S.J. – Boys Hostel Warden
Fr.Peter Bhujel completed High School from St Alphonsus High School, Kurseong. He did his graduation Honours in Nepali from St Joseph’s College, Darjeeling. He passed in B.Ph [Bachelor in Philosophy] with distinction from Satya Nilayam, Chennai. He is a topper with Gold Medal in M.A. [Nepali] from the North Bengal University. He has Distinction in M.Th [Master in Theology] studies from Jnanadeepa Vidyapeeth, Pune. Currently he is serving as the Boys Hostel Warden since April, 2016.
