– Assistant Professor

Ms. Persis completed her Bachelors in Sociology and Psychology from Christ College, Bangalore University in 2004 and her Masters in Sociology from Bangalore University, Karnataka in 2006. Ms. Mukhiya has also done Diploma in Human Resource from Indian Institute of Management & Technology, Chennai. She has attended UGC Sponsored Sensitivity / Awareness / Motivation – SAM workshop under the scheme of PD Women's College, Jalpaiguri Siliguri College. She joined NBXC in the year 2007.She Hasattended UGC sponsored Training for Programme Officers (NSS) held at Kalimpong, has also registered for her Ph.D under one dept. CHS (Centre for Himalayan Studies) N.B.U.She is an IGNOU Academic counselor in Sociology at NBXC. 


– Assistant Professor

Ms. Aparna Chatterjee completed her post graduation in Sociology and Social Anthropology from University of North Bengal – NBU achieving 1st class 1st position and achieved gold medal. Ms. Chatterjee completed her M.Phil and presently pursuing Ph.D in the area of Sociology of Religion and Culture – A study on socio-cultural distinctiveness and exchange of Theravadi Bengali Buddhist of North Bengal from Department of Sociology, NBU. Mrs. Chatterjee cleared her State Eligibility Test – SET for lectureship conducted by West Bengal College Service Commission in 2008. She started her teaching career from the year 1999, as a lecturer at Gour Mahavidyalaya, Malda. She joined Siliguri College in the year 2002 as a lecturer and worked till 2008. Within this span she also acted as a counselor in Directorate of Distance Education and Netaji Subhas Open University. She joined NBXC in the year 2009. Along with this she is also the Counselor of Indira Gandhi Open University at NBXC. She is the member of research committees – Community study and Sociology of Religion of International Sociological Association. She has more than 12 publications in the national and international journals.

Mrs. Sylvia Raha is the coordinator of Dept. of Sociology. She completed her graduation in Sociology from Siliguri College, Siliguri in 2009. She completed her Post- Graduation with specialization in ’Globalization and Society’ from University of North Bengal where she stood 1st class 1st with distinction in 2011. She joined NBXC in the year 2012. She is an IGNOU academic counselor in Sociology at NBXC She is currently pursuing her PhD on the topic ‘The Corporate Entry into the Jewellery Business and its Socio-Economic Impact on the life of Traditional Swarnakars and Jewellery trade in Siliguri’ from University of North Bengal.

Ms. Priyanka Karmakar has completed her graduation in Sociology from North Bengal St.Xavier’s College, Rajganj in 2010 and stood 1st class 1st in the University Examination and was awarded with gold medal by the University. She completed her Post- Graduation from University of North Bengal where she stood 1st class 1st with distinction in 2012. She qualified UGC-NET conducted on June 2013. She has completed her Ph.D. course work and currently pursuing her PhD from University of North Bengal.


– Assistant Professor

Ms. Mitra is joined NBXC as an Assistant Professor in Geography in the year 2009, presently she is the coordinator of the department. She did her Bachelors in Geography Honors from Siliguri College and Post graduation from NBU in Geography and Applied Geography with Population Studies as her special paper. She worked as a Research Assistant in Centre for Himalayan Studies, NBU on the topic of Quality of Life in Sikkim, funded by Ministry of Environment, Govt. of India, New Delhi. She has attended UGC Sponsored Sensitivity/Awareness/Motivation – SAM workshop under the scheme of Capacity Building Workshop for Women Managers in Higher Education, in Siliguri College. She also attended the UGC sponsored Workshop organized by Dept. of Geography, NBU on Modern techniques in Applied Geography. Presently, she is pursuing PhD at NBU on Migration of Population at NBU.


– Assistant Professor

Mr. Subroto Roy joined as an assistant Professor in Geography, NBXC in the year 2010. Mr. Roy completed his Bachelors in Geography Honors and Post graduation from NBU in Geography and Applied Geography. Before joining NBXC he was appointment as an assistant professor in Haldibari College. Presently he is pursuing PhD in Dept. of Geography, NBU. He qualified his NET examination in the year 2013.

Mr. Baidurya Biswas completed his graduation in Geography Honors from KrishNath College, Berhampore, University of Kalyani and post graduation in Geography from Aliah University He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. from NBU. He has also qualified his NET in the year 2012. He has participated in the Workshop on Basic Application with ILWIS GIS Software organized by Department of Geography, University of Gour Banga in 2014 and also participated in GIS training program from NATMO, Kolkata. He joined NBXC in 2014 prior to that he was Field Information Officer in Center for Monitoring Indian Economy – CMIE.



– Assistant Professor

Ms. Sumita Roy Chowdhury is the coordinator of History department. She did her Bachelors in History Honors from Siliguri College and Post graduation from NBU in History with specialization in Modern India. She has attended UGC Sponsored Orientation Program from Staff Academic College, NBU. She has completed her PhD course work and presently pursuing PhD on the topic, “Use of Allopathic Medicines in Terai Tea Gardens in Pre and Post Independent Period”. She joined NBXC in 2013.

Dr.Swapna Mitra was awarded Ph.D. by Silchar Central University, Assam. She took her M.A., M.Phil and B.Ed. degrees from North Bengal University. Her areas of interest are Modern Indian History, Women studies, Area Studies, especially Tibetan studies. She has numerous articles in academic journals. She has been a member of Indian History Congress, New Delhi, PashimBangoItihasSansad, Kolkata, and Corpus Research Institute, Kolkata. She has attended many seminars and conferencesat national and international levels. She has two theses on Tibetan Refugees in India. She also attended Research Methodology Coursework from National Institute. Apart from this she loves reading books, articles and journals. She takes up teaching as a profession and believes teaching involves empathy and interactions between the teacher and the taught. It is interactive and can be meaningful if the two stake holders come to understand each other and exchange freely with the creation of an identical wavelength of interests- the interest of the teacher being to deliver and disseminate knowledge and that of the student being the curiosity to know. The Ancient Indian concept of “ Sadharanikaran” rules her thought when it comes to teaching. To her teaching is a process of creative communication. 


-Assistant Professor     

Mr. Samar Chakrabartiearlier joined NBSXC in 2008 as an assistant professor in History and he was coordinator of Dept. of History from 2008 to 2014. He did his Bachelor’s in History Honours from Siliguri College in 1990 and Post-graduation in History from the University of North Bengal in 1992 with specialization in Mughal India. He received the JRF from N.B.U in the year 1995. He has qualified UGC-NET in 1999. He has also completed his Ph.D. Course-Work in 2012 and presently pursuing his Ph.D. from University of North Bengal in the area of Regional History. He has attended three UGC –Sponsored Refresher Courses in History and also participated in the UGC-Sponsored Workshop on “Unitization of Syllabus at College Level” in 2001. In the same year, 2-4 January, he attended Indian History Congress, Calcutta University (61st Session, IHC). He also attended continued Education Programme for Teaching Staff, March 2011 under Supervision of Dr. Hans Rudolf Grunaver. He participated in a numerous National Seminars from 2002 to 2012 and also participated in an Inter- national Seminar. In 2015, he participated in National Seminar on Integrated Pedagogical Paradigm in Teacher Education and presented a paper, “Jesuit Education for 21st Century Teacher Education”, at Loyola College of Education, Namchi, Sikkim.  

After a break of about two years Mr. Chakrabarti returned to the college in 2016.

Mr. Chakrabarti started his teaching career from the year 1991, and has a long work experience as a History teacher (about 21 years) in a good number of Colleges and Schools in West Bengal, Sikkim and Uttar Pradesh and also delivered lectures for IGNOU through All India Radio (AIR), Gangtok.

Mr. Saikat Roy is the coordinator of Department of BA General. He completed his graduation in Political Science from Raiganj College and post graduation from University of North Bengal – NBU. Mr. Roy completed his M.Phil from NBU and presently pursuing Ph.D with thesis entitled “Conflict Management in a Multicultural Society: A study of Terai and Dooars region of West Bengal” from NBU. He has presented various papers at different national and international seminars. Mr. Roy started his teaching career from the year 2009, as a lecturer at Munshi Premchand Mahavidyalaya, Siliguri. He joined Raiganj College in the year 2010 as a lecturer and worked till 2013. He also takes classes for Distance Education at NBU. He joined NBXC in July 2014.





– Assistant Professor 

Ms. Payel completed her bachelor's degree in Education from P.D Women's College, Jalpaiguri in 2012 and  Master's in Education from Jadavpur University , Kolkata in 2014. She worked as a Guest Lecturer in Education dept. P.D Women's College, Jalpaiguri from 2014-2017. She completed her B.ed degree from Ananda Chandra Teacher's Trainning College of Jalpaiguri in the year 2017. She joined NBSXC in July  2017 as an Assistant Professor of Education.
