– Assistant Professor

Dr. Mazumder is the coordinator of Dept. of Zoology. He completed his Bachelors in Zoology Hons from Malda College and Post graduation from NBU in Zoology. In the year 2003 he received the prestigious Lady Tata Memorial Trust Fellowship to carry out his research work. And then in the year 2006 he worked as a project Fellow funded by UGC, New Delhi. He received his doctoral degree from Department of Zoology, NBU in the year 2011. The title of his thesis is Characterization of Anti-inflammatory and Immunomodulatory properties of the Ethanolic Leaf Extract of Eupatorium adenophorum Spreng. He has participated in the 13th international HUMAN GENOME meeting and workshop in Hyderabad in 2008. He joined NBXC in the year 2011. Dr. Tamal is also the IGNOU coordinator of NBXC study centre from 2015.


  – Assistant Professor

Ms. Priyanka completed her BSc. in Zoology in 2009 from Siliguri College, Siliguri and Masters in Zoology from University of North Bengal in the year 2011 with specialization in Ecology and Animal Behaviour. She was awarded with “Hrishikesh Roy Scholar Award”. She has also completed her BEd. from Siliguri B.Ed. College in 2013. She joined NBXC in 2013. She has completed her PhD coursework from University of North Bengal and pursuing PhD in the field of Ecology.




   -Assistant Professor

She completed her B.Sc in Zoology from North Bengal St. Xavier’s college, Rajganj, in 2013 and did her M.Sc in the same subject from university of North Bengal in 2015 with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics. A paper has been co-authored by her, titled ‘Restriction endonuclease fragment analysis of Hypo sidratalac a nucleo polyhedrovirus genome’ was published in International Journal of Current Research and Academic Review in August, 2015. She joined as a part-time staff of North Bengal St. Xavier’s college in 2016.
  Mr. Avishek Das
 -Assistant Professor
Mr. Avishek Das completed his B.sc in Zoology from Siliguri College in 2008 and also completed his M.sc in 2010 from University of North Bengal. He also completed his B. Ed degree from Vidyasagar College of Education In 2012. In 2013 he joined Ph.d programme in University of North Bengal under the guidance of Prof. T.K Chaudhuri. The title of his thesis is “FREQUENCY AND DISTRIBUTION OF TLR GENES IN SOME HUMAN POPULATIONS OF NORTH BENGAL AND THEIR ASSOCIATION WITH RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS”. He is also working on the epidemic and infectious diseases like typhoid and HIV. He is also published several article on several international and reputed journals. He has also participated in the International society for Histocompatibility complex held in AIIMS, New Delhi in 2013. He joined the NBSXC in 2017.   


 Mr . Tanmay Mukhopadhyay

  -Assistant Professor

Mr. Tanmay Mukhopadhyay has completed his B.Sc in Zoology from Siliguri College in 2008 and also completed his M.Sc in Zoology with first class distinction in 2010 from University of North Bengal with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics.  From 2011 to 2014 he has worked as a Project Fellow funded by UGC, New Delhi; then he has received the UGC-BSR-JRF Meritorious Fellowship to carry out his research work. In 2013 he has joined Ph.D programme in Cell and Molecular Biology Laboratory, Department of Zoology, University of North Bengal under the supervision of Prof. Soumen Bhattacharjee. The title of his thesis is “Study of Genetic Diversity in the Threatened Ornamental Fishes, Badis badis (Hamilton-Buchanan, 1822) and Amblyceps mangois (Hamilton-Buchanan, 1822) from Terai and the Dooars region of North Bengal, India.”  He has also finished some preliminary research work on the Barilius sp or “Boroli” fish based on molecular genetic data in the Teesta river of North Bengal, India. He has published full research articles in several national and international journals. He has also authored three book chapters published by reputed publishers from New Delhi, India. He has already submitted 40 mitochondrial gene sequences related to fishes to the public NCBI Gene Bank database, USA. He has also participated and present several national and international seminars, conferences and workshops.  He has qualified CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) in ‘Life Science’ in 2014 with AIR 40, Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) in ‘Ecology and Evolution’ in 2015 with AIR 67 and ICAR-ASRB NET in ‘Animal Biotechnology’ in 2016. He has joined the NBSXC in 2017.





 – Assistant Professor

Dr. Das joined NBXC in 2010 and presently he is the coordinator of Environmental Studies. Dr. Das Gupta completed his Masters degree in Botany in the year 1997 from the University of North Bengal with specialization in Mycology and Plant Pathology. He was awarded Ph.D. in the year 2005 from the University of North Bengal for his work on “Studies on some foliar fungal diseases of young tea (Camellia sinensis (L.) O. KTZE) plants. After completion of his PhD, he worked as a Technical Assistant in the DBT sponsored project on mushroom cultivation in the Department of Botany, University of North Bengal. He also received the prestigious award of Research Associate for post doctoral research from the CSIR, New Delhi (2006-2009), in the project “Detection and induction of defense enzymes in tea plants.” He has already published 11 full papers (4 international and 7 national) and 4 book articles. Dr. Das Gupta received the best poster presentation award in National Conference held in Gulbarga University, Karnataka, India, 2007. He has also presented a paper in an International Conference held in 2010 at Rajshahi University, Bangladesh.


    – Assistant Professor

Dr. Chaudhuri completed her graduation and post graduation in Botany from University of North Bengal and B.Ed. from Ananda Chandra Training College, Jalpaiguri. She was awarded Ph.D. degree in the year 2011. The title of her thesis was ‘ Studies on the resistance of [Niger (Guizotia abyssinica L.S.)Cass] against Alternaria alternata causing leaf blight and control of the disease using botanicals and antagonists’. She attended several national seminars and symposius. She is a part of NBXC from 2012.   


– Assistant Professor

Dr. Saha joined NBXC in 2017 as an assistant professor in Botany. Dr. Saha completed his Masters degree in Botany in the year 2005 from the University of North Bengal with specialization in Cytogenetics. He was awarded Ph.D. in the year 2014 from the University of North Bengal for his work on “Studies on some viral diseases of economically important crops from sub-Himalayan West Bengal and their management strategies” as Research Fellow in UGC sponsored research fellowship in science for meritorious students. After completion of Ph. D work, he joined Division of Plant Pathology, IARI, New Delhi as a Junior Project Fellow in a DBT sponsored research project. He started his teaching carrier as Guest Faculty at P. D. Women’s College, Jalpaiguri in the year 2014 and before joining to NBXC, he was at Beinstein College of Science, Guwahati as full time faculty.He has already published 13 full papers (6 international and 7 national) and 2 book chapters. Dr. Saha received two best poster presentation awards as presenter and co-author in Annual Conferences of Indian Society of Mycology and Plant Pathology at Junagadh, 2007 and in National Symposium organized by Central Rainfed Upland Research Station (CRRI, ICAR) at Jharkhand, 2013 respectively. He has also presented a paper in 3rd Global Conference on “Plant Pathology and Food Security” at Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur, Rajasthan. He also delivered an invited lecture at Bioinformatics sub-DISC, Sikkim State Council of Science & Technology, Gangtok, East Sikkim for a workshop entitled “Bioinformatics in Plant Genomic Research”.  During the research period Dr. Saha has submitted more than 30 genome sequences of plant viruses from West Bengal and Assam to GenBank, USA and participated in 7 hands on trainings and workshops and now associated with Molecular Plant Pathology and Fungal Biotechnology Laboratory, Dept. of Botany, University of North Bengal for publication of research papers on Plant Virology.



   – Assistant professor

Ms. Kheyali Halder completed her graduation from Ananda chandra college, jalpaiguri and also completed her M. Sc from post graduate department of botany,  Darjeeling Government college, with first class second position. Her specialisation in Master's was Plant physiology and biochemistry. She qualified CSIR- UGC NET( LS)  in December 2016, with AIR- 36. She also qualified GATE in 2017. Formerly She worked as a guest lecturer at department of botany,  Ananda chandra college, jalpaiguri. She has joined North Bengal St Xavier’s College in July 2018.



 – Assistant professor

Shreya Majumder is an Assistant Professor in Physics. She joined North Bengal St. Xavier’s College, Jalpaiguri (NBXC) and serving as an Assistant Professor to the department of physics since July 2016. She has completed M.Sc. in Physics from  Sikkim Manipal Institute Of Technology (SMIT). Her specialization is "Electronics".She is the counsellor of physics in IGNOU.





Assistant Professor

Dr. Mitali Paul has joined NBXC in July 2018 as an assistant professor in chemistry department. She successfully completed her B.Sc from University of Calcutta in 2010 and M.Sc from IIT Hyderabad in the year 2012. She was awarded PhD from Osaka Univeesity, Japan in 2016. She has published several international journals and participated in many international conferences in Japan, Germany and  Singapore during her PhD. Before joining NBXC, she worked as guest lecturer in coochbehar College. She has qualified CSIR-UGC NET in the year 2017.
