– Assistant Professor

Dr. Mazumder is the coordinator of Dept. of Zoology. He completed his Bachelors in Zoology Hons from Malda College and Post graduation from NBU in Zoology. In the year 2003 he received the prestigious Lady Tata Memorial Trust Fellowship to carry out his research work. And then in the year 2006 he worked as a project Fellow funded by UGC, New Delhi. He received his doctoral degree from Department of Zoology, NBU in the year 2011. The title of his thesis is Characterization of Anti-inflammatory and Immunomodulatory properties of the Ethanolic Leaf Extract of Eupatorium adenophorum Spreng. He has participated in the 13th international HUMAN GENOME meeting and workshop in Hyderabad in 2008. He joined NBXC in the year 2011. Dr. Tamal is also the IGNOU coordinator of NBXC study centre from 2015.


– Assistant Professor

Dr. H Yasmin joined NBXC in 2010 as an assistant professor in Zoology. She did her undergraduate and Postgraduate in Zoology from University of North Bengal. Before joining NBXC she also taught in dept. of Zoology, Malda College. She received the Senior Research Fellowship from Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi for the year 2005-2008. She was awarded the Doctorate of Philosophy in Zoology (Tumor Immunology) in the year 2007 from NBU. She received the Best Young Scientist Awards and stood first during the National Seminars held at Kalyani University and also at NBU in 2004 and has also received the best poster award in an International Seminar held at AIIMS, New Delhi. 

After finishing her PhD, she worked with two different projects on Climate issues funded by Oxam Novib & FERN, UK (2008-2009) and by Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung, South Asia (2011-2012) in collaboration with NESPON, Siliguri. She is the co-author of books, “Carbon Banijyo” (in Bengali), “Upsetting the Offset-The political economy of carbon markets”(MayFlyBooks, London) and “Climate Change and India” (Daanish Books, New Delhi). In August 2014 she received Travel Scholarship from Seattle University to present her research paper on Carbon Trading and sustainability at Center for Environmental Justice and Sustainability, Seattle University, USA from 7th August to 9th August, 2014.She was also sent to Vooresh College, Vellore in a faculty exchange program conducted by AIACHE in November, 2014.


– Assistant Professor

Ms. Priyanka completed her BSc. in Zoology in 2009 from Siliguri College, Siliguri and Masters in Zoology from University of North Bengal in the year 2011 with specialization in Ecology and Animal Behaviour. She was awarded with “Hrishikesh Roy Scholar Award”. She has also completed her BEd. from Siliguri B.Ed. College in 2013. She joined NBXC in 2013. She has completed her PhD coursework from University of North Bengal and pursuing PhD in the field of Ecology.


– Assistant Professor

Ms. Pushpa completed her BSc. in Zoology in 2011 from Alipur Duar College and Masters in Zoology from University of North Bengal in the year 2013 with specialization in Cell Biology & Genetics”. She has also completed her BEd. from Vidyasagar College of Education in 2015. She joined NBXC in 2015. She has also taught in Gyan Jyoti College for the session 2013-14 in the department of Zoology.



-Assistant Professor

Dr. Mukhopadhyay completed his Bachelors from Burdwan Raj College (University of Burdwan) and Masters from Visva-Bharati University in Zoology. He was awarded Ph. D. (Molecular Genetics) in Science from the Department of Zoology (Centre for Advanced Studies) of the same university. He also qualified the CSIR-UGC NET for two times and availed prestigious Junior Research Fellowship from Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India (DBT-JRF) during his Ph. D. tenure. He has published various International publications and attended different Conferences/Seminars. He joined NBXC in 2016.



-Assistant Professor

Ms. Poulami Chatterjee completed  her B.SC. in Zoology in 2013 from A.P.C.Roy Govt. College, Siliguri and Masters in Zoology in 2015 from University of Calcutta with specialization in Biotechnology and Ecology. She stood 1st class 2nd during her graduation and was awarded the University Silver Medal in the year 2013 by the Honourable Governor of West Bengal. She has qualified the Research Eligibilty Test (CU RET), conducted by University of Calcutta and the  Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) Examination in 2016. A Paper co-authored by her, titled ‘A Preliminary Study of Clinical manifestation of Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) in Kolkata’ has been published in the International Journal of Research and Development in Pharmacy Life Sciences (IJRDPL) in March, 2016. She has qualified the CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test for Lectureship (NET LS) in 2016. She joined NBSXC in July,2016.



-Assistant Professor
She completed her B.Sc in Zoology from North Bengal St. Xavier’s college, Rajganj, in 2013 and did her M.Sc in the same subject from university of North Bengal in 2015 with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics. A paper has been co-authored by her, titled ‘Restriction endonuclease fragment analysis of Hypo sidratalac a nucleo polyhedrovirus genome’ was published in International Journal of Current Research and Academic Review in August, 2015. She joined as a part-time staff of North Bengal St. Xavier’s college in 2016.




– Assistant Professor

Dr. Das joined NBXC in 2010 and presently he is the coordinator of Environmental Studies. Dr. Das Gupta completed his Masters degree in Botany in the year 1997 from the University of North Bengal with specialization in Mycology and Plant Pathology. He was awarded Ph.D. in the year 2005 from the University of North Bengal for his work on “Studies on some foliar fungal diseases of young tea (Camellia sinensis (L.) O. KTZE) plants. After completion of his PhD, he worked as a Technical Assistant in the DBT sponsored project on mushroom cultivation in the Department of Botany, University of North Bengal. He also received the prestigious award of Research Associate for post doctoral research from the CSIR, New Delhi (2006-2009), in the project “Detection and induction of defense enzymes in tea plants.” He has already published 11 full papers (4 international and 7 national) and 4 book articles. Dr. Das Gupta received the best poster presentation award in National Conference held in Gulbarga University, Karnataka, India, 2007. He has also presented a paper in an International Conference held in 2010 at Rajshahi University, Bangladesh.


– Assistant Professor

Dr. Chaudhuri completed her graduation and post graduation in Botany from University of North Bengal and B.Ed. from Ananda Chandra Training College, Jalpaiguri. She was awarded Ph.D. degree in the year 2011. The title of her thesis was ‘ Studies on the resistance of [Niger (Guizotia abyssinica L.S.)Cass] against Alternaria alternata causing leaf blight and control of the disease using botanicals and antagonists’. She attended several national seminars and symposius. She is a part of NBXC from 2012.



– Assistant professor

Dr. Saikat Chattopadhyay is an Assistant Professor in Physics. He received his Doctorate degree from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya [DAVV], Indore in 2014 for his research work on semiconductor core/shell quantum dots. After submission of Ph.D. thesis in Feb. 2013, he joined Department of Physics, IISER – Pune (India) as a post doc fellow to continue his research work in the field of Semiconductor Nanostructures. He joined North Bengal St. Xavier’s College, Jalpaiguri (NBXC) and serving as an Assistant Professor to the department of physics since July 2014. The research areas of his current interest include Theoretical Modelling of Semiconductor Nanostructures, Spintronics and Quantum Computing.

Mrs. Antara Sarkar graduated in Chemistry from Raiganj College (University College) presently Raiganj University in 2005 followed by her Master’s degree in Chemistry with specialization in Organic Chemistry from the University of North Bengal in 2007. She started her PhD research in Natural Products Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry, NBU. Meanwhile she had qualified GATE 2012. She submitted (February, 2015) her PhD thesis embodied the research results on the “Syntheses and Characterization of Steroids and Pentacyclic triterpenoids along with their Biological Evaluation. She joined NBXC in the year 2014.


Assistant Professor

Mr. Das did his graduation in Chemistry from Raiganj College (University College) presently Raiganj University in 2005, he completed his Master’s degree in Chemistry with specialization in Organic Chemistry from the University of North Bengal in 2007. Then he started his PhD research in Natural Products Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry, University of North Bengal. Meanwhile he had qualified NET (CSIR-JRF) and GATE, both in 2009. He has submitted (December, 2015) his PhD thesis comprised of the research results on the transformative reactions on some carbocyclic natural products, viz., steroids and friedelane triterpenoids.
